Girl Guides of Canada-BC

My journey with Girl Guides of Canada has not only made me who I am today but also serves as a compass for who I wish to become. It continues to shape my aspirations, my values, and my approach to life, reminding me that true leadership is about fostering growth, advocating for change, and empowering others. Thank you to Girl Guides, who taught me what I was capable of and gave me the tools to succeed.

I am honoured to have been chosen as the recipient of the Elaine Killam Scholarship 2024. Thank you to the wonderful Guiders, friends, family, and the scholarship committee who have supported me! This scholarship will undoubtedly help me achieve my future academic and personal goals.

I would like to express my gratitude for being selected as the 2024 recipient of the Elaine Killam Scholarship. This scholarship will significantly impact my journey in becoming an engineer at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Being a Girl Guide has taught me the importance of community, leadership, service, and much more. I am deeply appreciative of the support this community has continuously given me.

As a significant part of my youthhood, Girl Guides has not only taught me invaluable practical skills such as communication, organization, and outdoor survival, but also helped me form permanent bonds with my community and fellow sisters in guiding. With the help of the kind donor of this scholarship, I will be studying Architecture at the University of Michigan as of Fall 2024.

I joined Girl Guides of Canada in 2011 and immediately fell in love with it. The activities; receiving badges and awards; having such amazing opportunities for both learning and volunteering; going on fun camping trips, like to Camp Olave; and most importantly the Guiders who have helped me and led me along the way. I can confidently say that all my Guiders have left a significant impact on my life, especially those who I have continued to stay in contact with for many years after leaving their group.

I am currently enrolled in the Humanities department at the University of Victoria. I think my thirteen years in guiding, where I had so many strong female role models, is a large reason that I decided to pursue my love for history in post-secondary education. This scholarship will help me in being able to pursue this degree.

I am incredibly grateful to receive the BC Council Bursary. Thank you so much for supporting me and my academic endeavours. As a woman going into STEM, Girl Guides has been a great source of inspiration and encouragement throughout my life. I will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Genetics at the University of Calgary, and this bursary will be a great resource in helping me to achieve my goals and further my learning.

Girl Guides has given me lifelong friendships, amazing mentors, and an introduction to many experiences and skills that helped inspire my path into Environmental Science. Now, the generous support of this award will help my future academic pursuits and goals. I will strive to excel in my studies, contribute to my community, and use this award to make a positive difference in the world like Guiding has in my life.

I am very excited to start University in September 2024. I will be taking Global Studies, and then move onto the Ivey School of Business for a second degree in Business Administration. Thank you so much to GGC for this Bursary to help with my studies!

Girl Guides has changed my life in a way I could have never imagined. All the community work I’ve done has heavily been influenced by all the people I’ve met along my 14 year journey in Guiding. I hope to come back and become a leader to share the same compassion and love I was shown.

This scholarship will help me achieve my goals which include pursuing a career in education and working with youth, drawing from my many leaders as role models. With the support of Girl Guides of Canada, I am excited to give back to my community by inspiring a new generation of powerful women.

I am so grateful to be a recipient of this award, and that Girl Guides has chosen to support me in my future endeavors. I have been given so many amazing opportunities through Guiding, and have learnt so many lessons and important values. I hope to share these lessons and values with future generations through my career as a Speech-Language Pathologist working with children.

I would like to say thank you for this great opportunity. I will make sure to pay this forward in my artistic journey to whatever occupation I will choose in the future.

Thank you, Girl Guides, for all the experiences that I have been fortunate to have, unforgettable memories I’ve created, countless skills and lessons learned, and lifelong friends I’ve made through the program. Thank you for the support as I embark on my next adventure. I hope one day to be able to give back to the program in the same impactful way that it has always supported me.

Guiding has enriched my life in so many ways and continues to support me as I enter the 3D Modeling, Art, and Animation program. Girl Guides has pushed me to be more adventurous, more independent, and gave me the confidence to step outside of my comfort zone. I thank my amazing leaders and all those who have helped me get to where I am today.

The Dawnette Humphrey Scholarship means a lot to me as I have been a part of guiding since first year Sparks all the way to third year Rangers, and knowing the Girl Guides will help me through my post-secondary adventures. The Dawnette Humphrey Scholarship will be going towards my studies at BCIT. I hope to achieve great things there.

Being a member of Girl Guides for 13 years has helped me grow and has shaped me into who I am today. It’s amazing to have the backing of such an empowering organization and I promise to carry the values of Girl Guides with me every step of the way!

I am honored to be the recipient of the BC Trefoil Guilds’ Education Grant. Reflecting on 20 years of Guiding, the motto “Be Prepared” has been my anchor. My personal and clinical experiences throughout medical school have prepared me for a career devoted to improving mental health, quality of life, societal inclusion, and overall well-being. My values and skills developed as a Girl Guide member and leader will allow me to provide biopsychosocial care that is evidence-based, culturally safe, compassionate, and individualized. Additionally, Girl Guides has provided me with the leadership, organizational, inter-personal, and mentorship skills to serve as a leader within the medical community and beyond.

I am so thankful for this grant and the opportunity to complete a Leadership Program at Vancouver Community College. This educational experience will help me build skills to continue to support youth in my community. Thank you!

This scholarship was established by the Humphrey family in honour of Dawnette Humphrey, a remarkably caring, kind, and compassionate woman who found joy in the sisterhood of Guiding throughout her life. Dawnette started as a young girl in Guiding and was proud to fulfill many roles in the organization, including a term as Provincial Commissioner for BC. To every role, Dawnette brought her calm and patient demeanour, her warm and welcoming smile, and her unwavering belief in the potential for Guiding to positively impact girls and women around the world.

To be eligible for this grant the applicant must:

• Be graduating from high school in the application year.
• Be an active member in good standing of Girl Guides of Canada.
• Have been active in BC Guiding for the last three years.
• Be a passionate community minded individual and a helpful responsible citizen.

Requirements

• Scholarship will be considered for all types of education, including high school equivalency, technical or career programs and college or university courses.
• The Dawnette Humphrey scholarship may be applied to tuition or other expenses such as childcare, books, supplies, and transportation.
• This scholarship is conditional upon acceptance at the institution of the recipient’s choice.
• The scholarship must be used within 18 months of the date of notification.
• The recipient(s) is to continue her involvement in Guiding in whatever way possible.
• Unsuccessful applicants may reapply.
• Successful applicant(s) may reapply once only.
• An applicant is eligible to receive only one bursary, grant or scholarship in the same year

Amount: $500 (1 award available)

To be eligible for this grant the applicant must:

• Be 19-30 years of age in the application year.
• Be an active member in good standing of Girl Guides of Canada.
• Have been active in BC Guiding for the last three years.

Requirements

• Grants will be considered for education of all types, including high school equivalency, technical or career programs, and college or university courses at any public or private institutions.
• This grant is conditional upon acceptance at the institution of the recipient’s choice.
• This education grant must be used within 18 months of the date of notification.
• Successful applicants may receive only one adult bursary, grant or scholarship per year and may not receive the same adult bursary, grant or scholarship more than once.
• Unsuccessful applicants may re-apply.
• Recipient is expected to continue her involvement in Guiding in whatever way possible.

To be eligible for this grant the applicant must:

• Be 25 years or older.
• Be an active adult member in good standing of Girl Guides of Canada–Guides du Canada.
• Have been active in BC Guiding for the last three years.

Requirements

• Bursaries will be considered for all types of education, including high school equivalency, technical or career programs and college or university courses.
• The Pat Drugge Adult Bursary may be applied to tuition or other expenses such as childcare, books, supplies and transportation.
• This bursary is conditional upon acceptance at the institution of the recipient’s choice.
• The bursary must be used within 18 months of the date of notification.
• The recipient(s) is to continue her involvement in Guiding in whatever way possible.
• Unsuccessful applicants may reapply.
• Successful applicant(s) may reapply once only.
• An applicant is eligible to receive only one adult bursary, grant or scholarship in the same year.
