Join our Board of Directors
Girl Guides of Canada (GGC) is currently seeking two individuals to join our Board as Directors at Large.
The Board is responsible for setting GGC’s strategic direction and providing oversight on legal, governance, risk management and financial matters.
Board members carefully consider what’s in the best interests of girls, volunteers and GGC to ensure our organization is relevant, growing and sustainable. They champion the voices of girls, youth and women and are committed to ensuring that Girl Guides continues to be a place where every girl and youth can say ‘I belong’.
Who are we looking for?
- Individuals with experience in law, strategic planning, human resources and finance.
- A strong understanding of the complex structure of GGC is an asset.
- Experience as a senior volunteer with Girl Guides or experience working in other complex membership organizations is also an asset.
- As an organization committed to girls and youth, we strive to ensure that the voices of youth members are incorporated in all aspects of Girl Guides, including the Board.
- We are looking to add youth voices to our governance structure and encourage interested individuals between the age of 18-30 years old to apply.
What is the commitment required?
- GGC's Board is a working board. This role requires between five and fifteen hours per month or more for larger portfolios.
- Board Directors hold their positions for a three-year term, with the possibility of extension. The upcoming term is slightly shorter as GGC has recently shifted our fiscal year and the timing of our Annual General Meeting. The term begins June 2025 and will finish February 2028. Starting in 2026, Annual General Meetings, which include Board elections, will take place in February each year.
- All Directors are expected to sit on a Board Committee and engage in Committee meetings and work.
- Board members must attend regular meetings (maximum of two per year are in-person) and a virtual Annual General Meeting each year.
- Some travel may be required.
- New Board members must be willing to become a member and supporter of GGC if they are not already.
